Justin Brown, a native of Warner Robins, Ga., begins his first season as the defensive line coach at Mercer University in 2013.

He brings a wealth of talent to Mercer after most recently coaching at Presbyterian College in Clinton, S.C.  During the 2011 season, Brown held the position of defensive tackles coach with the Blue Hose, helping elevate the team to a program-best third place finish in the Big South Conference in his only year with the team.

The landmark season also saw the Blue Hose finish the year with back-to-back wins, marking the first time since 2008 the team accomplished that feat.

Before working at Presbyterian, Brown was an assistant coach at Hillcrest High School, where he coached the defensive line and served as the junior varsity defensive coordinator. While coaching at Hillcrest, he also spent time as an Assistant Sports Director at the YMCA of Greenville. He was a four-year starter at nose guard for Furman under Bobby Lamb and served as team captain in his senior campaign.

Brown played collegiately under head coach Bobby Lamb at Furman (2006-2009) and was recruited out of Warner Robins High School. In 2007, Brown earned Sports Network All-American Honorable Mention honors and was a College Sporting News Preseason All-American. He was the 2006 Furman Freshman of the Year and tallied All-Southern Conference selections in 2006 and 2007.

Brown graduated from Furman in 2009 with a bachelor’s of arts in religion and communication studies.
